PD Session Summary: Authoring with H5P

Presentation: Contemporary Authoring with H5P
November 14th, 2017.

This presentation was given by John Allan (member of the CNA-Q Blended Learning Committee) as part of a regular series of talks hosted by the Doha eLearning Developers Guild.  John introduced and demonstrated some of the features of a relatively new eLearning authoring tool called H5P.

I became aware of H5P very recently (as a result of a search for something completely different) and was curious to learn more about it, so John’s presentation was very timely.

H5P boasts many features and tools which make it a great addition to the toolset of an educational developer (ie. quizzes, interactive exercises, flashcards, slide presentations, xAPI integration, etc), but what makes me really excited about this tool, is the ability to insert questions into existing online videos.  The learning objects generated by H5P are saved in HTML5, which means they can be easily integrated into any website, the content is also likely to be universally compatible and responsive regardless of the user’s device.  Another benefit of this use of HTML5 is that anything generated by this tool is protected from vendor lock-in.

H5P is open-sourced and under very active development, which means it’s likely to become even more versatile/powerful in the future.
